How many of you watch HGTV and find yourself remodeling your own home based on their ideas? Whole-house makeover or just a small one day project to work on a tiny powder room - find the remodeling information to suit your needs. We have divided this article into two sections: section one – Rooms, and section two – Things!
Living Room Design Styles
Rooms: Focus on the basics of line, shape and form. Tie everything together with a passive palette of warm grays accented with colors of your choice.
Things: Use floor lamps or table lamps that feature straight lines. Add brightly colored accessories, like an abstract art piece or rug to make your room pop with excitement.
Kitchen & Dining Room Design Styles
Rooms: Personal style should dominate in your kitchen. Forget about trying to decorate like some Italian restaurant, your style should be the fashion of your kitchen. Space and function over looks is very important, because after all, you are the one who will be using the kitchen most of the time.
Things: If you are looking to add some pizzazz to your kitchen, try to have several small appliances in different color on your counter tops. Not too many, but something to show that you are a daily cook and bring color to your kitchen. Olive oil bottles, paper towel holders, teapots and coffeemakers are great when you need to pick out some decorating items that are inexpensive.
Bedroom Design Styles
Rooms: This room is probably the most important room in your entire house. This is the place where you get "recharged" so it's not just the mattress that should be picked out with utmost attention, but all furniture and things! Transform your current bedroom into a romantic and ultimate in relaxation retreat. Take inspiration from what's right outside your window, a happy marriage of outdoor and indoor is sure to set the mood. Try to re-paint your bedroom every year. It does not have to be a big project, just a change of color will give you that refreshed feeling that you are looking for.
Things: If you have a garden, many of you place the flowers in the living room, completely forgetting your bedroom. Keep fresh flower clippings from the garden on your dresser. Remove all but one book from your nightstands. You are only able to read one book at a time, so there is no need for you to have your entire library dominate your room. If you do not have carpeting, a nice thick rug is a must! Find the rug that is not a match with your furniture, but offers other patterns and color to your floor.
